My Philosophy: Movement for Longevity, Joy, and Freedom

Life is about more than just getting through the day — it’s about living fully. I believe that the better we care for our mind and body, the more joy, play, and freedom we can experience, no matter what life throws our way. Movement is my anchor. It helps me build strength and resilience, but it also invites lightness and curiosity. Whether I’m on the yoga mat, lifting weights, or chasing my kids through the forest, I move to feel alive. Yoga, in particular, offers a space to explore, to play, and to discover what my body can do. It teaches me to find calm amidst the chaos and to breathe deeply, even when things feel hard. Through movement, I’ve learned that challenges don’t have to hold us back — they can be stepping stones to greater self-awareness and freedom.

Finding Strength Through Life's Challenges

My passion for movement was born from hardship. I lost my dad when I was 13 - eight days before my birthday. He was a strong and disciplined army sergeant, but PTSD left deep scars. After he left the army, life became chaotic. He struggled with work, turned to drinking, and gambling drained what little we had. His death from lung cancer was devastating, and in the aftermath, I felt completely lost. The weight of grief, loneliness, and uncertainty felt unbearable.

Then I discovered weightlifting and dance. Moving my body gave me something to focus on. Each lift, each step, demanded my attention and slowly, I began to feel stronger — not just physically but mentally. When I found yoga, everything changed. Yoga taught me that strength isn’t just about pushing hard; it’s about learning to breathe through discomfort, to embrace stillness, and to listen to what my body needs.

For me, yoga is playful. It invites curiosity and exploration. Life often feels heavy, but on the mat, I get to be light. I can wobble in a balancing pose and laugh. I can try something new and embrace the challenge, knowing that I don’t have to get it right — I just have to show up. Yoga reminds me that growth happens when we stop trying to be perfect and start being present.

This philosophy extends beyond the mat. I love running wild with my kids through the forest, trying new things, and seeking adventure. Just because we grow older doesn’t mean we have to slow down. Our bodies are meant to move, to play, and to carry us through life with strength and grace. Yoga helps me build the strength and flexibility to keep up with life’s adventures and enjoy every moment along the way.

Moving Through Setbacks

My journey hasn’t been without setbacks. I’ve faced persistent hip, knee and foot issues, undergone multiple surgeries, and felt the deep frustration of my body holding me back. There were times when it felt easier to stop moving altogether, but I realised that the more I gave in to the discomfort, the less I was able to do — and that left me feeling isolated.

Yet, yoga kept calling me back. It taught me to meet my body where it is, to adapt and modify when needed, and to celebrate every bit of progress. Movement became more than just a path to healing; it became a way to reclaim my sense of self.

A Life of Movement and Connection

I’m passionate about health, fitness, and strength, but above all, I’m passionate about living a full life. Whether it’s weightlifting, playing with my kids, hiking the moors, or connecting with friends, movement is at the heart of everything I do. Yoga ties it all together. It teaches me to be curious, to listen to my body, and to embrace the joy of simply moving.

If you’re ready to explore what your body can do, to build strength and flexibility, and to find moments of calm amidst the storm, I’d love for you to join me. Let’s move, breathe, and discover what freedom feels like — together.
